How these cards work together

Death asks what is ending; the Emperor asks what can hold the next chapter. Together they turn transition into a practical question: which structures should be released, and which should be rebuilt so that change has somewhere to land?

Strengths and tensions

This group does not predict death or loss. Its useful tension is between renewal and continuity. A boundary may need to change because it has outlived its purpose; another boundary may become more important precisely because the surrounding situation is uncertain.

Review an old commitment. Name what is finished, what support must continue, and the simplest agreement that would fit the new circumstances.

How to calculate the 13/4 birth-card group

Try this illustrative date: 1/3/1980 (month/day/year). It is an example, not a visitor’s birth date. Add the month, day, century, and final two year digits, then follow the reduction:

1. 1 + 3 + 19 + 80 = 103
2. 10 + 3 = 13
3. 1 + 3 = 4

For a three-digit total, add the first two digits as a whole number to the last digit. Keep the full pair. A paired-card lookup, when shown, selects a companion rather than adding another arithmetic step. Many different dates produce this group; the example is not a date range or a unique profile.
